A Special Bat Mitzvah Celebration חגיגת בת מצווה מיוחדת

המרכז ממשיך בעבודתו החשובה הודות לתורמים ותומכים בארץ ובחו"ל.  חלק מהתומכים האלה הם תלמידים בגיל בר ובת מצווה העוסקים בפרוייקטים מיוחדים, בהם מגייסים משאבים למרכז.  פרוייקטים אלו גם מעלים את המודעות בקרב חברים, משפחה, ובני הכיתה לגבי החשיבות של כלבי נחייה.

בתחילת חודש דצמבר בערב חנוכה תלמידת בת מצווה בשם אודליה רובינס – מורגנשטרן  עלתה לתורה וחגגה את בת המצווה שלה.   נקודה מרכזית בחגיגה היה ביקור במרכז עם בני המשפחה וחברים.  אודליה הקדישה את מרבית השנה האחרונה לפרוייקט, בו היא חקרה ולמדה את הנושא של כלבי נחייה, כתבה והציגה מצגת על כלבי נחייה ועל המרכז, ונתנה הרצאות לקהילה ולבני הכיתה שלה.  היא גם גייסה כסף לתרומה למרכז במכירת עוגיות תוצרת בית, ועודדה חברים ובני משפחה לתרום את מתנות בת המצווה שלה למרכז דרך אתר האינטרנט שלה. 

"המטרה העיקרית שלי הייתה למצוא פרוייקט המשלב את האהבה שלי לבעלי חיים עם הרצון שלי לעזור לאנשים עם צרכים מיוחדים," הסבירה אודליה.  "הפרוייקט עם המרכז לכלבי נחייה התאים לי מאד!"

אודליה ובני משפחתה סיירו במרכז ונפגשו עם נח, דניס, ועם ברכה וכלבת הנחייה שלה דינקה.  הביקור היה הזדמנות בשבילנו להודות לה על התרומה הנדיבה והעבודה המסורה. אודליה מרגישה שהפרוייקט לא רק איפשר לה לגייס משאבים למרכז, אלא גם הגביר את הביטחון העצמי ושיפר את היכולת שלה לדבר בפני קהל.  "כשהתחלתי את הפרוייקט, חשבתי שאני רק אעזור לאחרים, אבל בסוף הבנתי שהפרוייקט גם עזר לי."  

     

The Center is able to continue its important work thanks to many generous friends and supporters from Israel and abroad.  Some of these supporters are young people.  Many Bar and Bat Mitzvah students undertake special Mitzvah projects to raise money for the Center, while developing their own talents and informing friends, family, and peers about the importance of guide dogs. 

Odelya Robins – Morgenstern culminated her Bat Mitzvah celebration at the beginning of December with a visit to the center with her extended family and friends.  Odelya had dedicated the past year to a Bat Mitzvah project in which she researched the topic of guide dogs and the center, and composed a PowerPoint presentation to inform friends, peers, and her synagogue congregation. 

"My main goal was to find a site that combines my love for animals and my desire to help people with special needs. Volunteering for the guide dog center was just what I wanted," explained Odelya in her speech.

Odelya raised funds for the center by baking and selling homemade cookies, as well as encouraging family and friends to donate to the center in honor of her Bat Mitzvah through her web page. 

The day after her Bat Mitzvah Odelya and her family toured the center, where they met with Noach, Dennis, and Bracha Ben Avraham and her guide dog Dinka.  The visit was a culmination of Odelya's efforts and an opportunity for us at the center to thank her for her dedicated work.  Odelya feels that the project not only helped the center, but also helped boost her self-confidence and improve her public speaking skills.  "When I started the program I thought I would only help other people, but the program has also helped me."

במשך כל ההיסטוריה של כלבי נחייה, רועים גרמניים, או כלבי זאב, תמיד שיחקו תפקיד חשוב. אפילו באדי, כלבת הנחייה הראשונה בארצות הברית הייתה כלבת זאב. מאז כלבי הלברדור והגולדן רטריבר תפסו מקום עיקרי בבתי ספר ברחבי העולם, אך הלוגו של "העין הרואה" – בית הספר הידוע במוריסטון, ניו ג'רסי, הוא תמונה של כלב זאב עם אזניים מחודדות. למרות שהם יחסית גדולים, יש אנשים רבים המעדיפים את הגזע של הרועה הגרמני ככלב נחייה. השבוע הגיעה גורה שנתרמה על ידי בית הספר העין הרואה במוריסטון, ניו ג'רסי. שמה קוני, והיא רועה גרמנית בת חמישה חודשים. קוני תגדל אצל משפחה אומנת כאן בארץ, ואנו מקווים שלאחר מכן תתפוס את מקומה כאן ככלבת רביה או ככלבת נחייה. בקרוב תגיע מאותו בית הספר עוד גורה נוספת מאותו גזע בשם פארה. אנו שמחים על האפשרות לגוון את סוגי הכלבים שלנו. החזרת כלבי הזאב למאגר הכלבים שלנו ייתן ללקוחות אפשרות לבחור בגזע נוסף. אנו מודים לבית הספר "העין הרואה"  בניו ג'רסי על תרומת הגורים, ומאחלים לקוני הצעירה הצלחה בדרכה

German Shepherds have played an important role throughout the history of guide dogs. Even Buddy, the first guide dog in America, was a female German Shepherd. Since then the Labrador and golden retrievers have been selected as the main breeds used in most guide dog schools throughout the world, but the logo of "The Seeing Eye" – the well-known school in Morristown, New Jersey, shows a German Shepherd with its characteristic pointed ears. Despite the fact that they are often larger dogs, many clients prefer the traditional German Shepherd when they receive a guide dog. This week a German Shepherd named Connie arrived here in Israel from "The Seeing Eye" in Morristown New Jersey. Connie is five months old, and will be adopted by one of our puppy raiser families. We hope that she will take her place with us as a breeding dog or a guide dog. Another German Shepherd puppy from The Seeing Eye named Fara is due to arrive in the next few weeks. We are pleased to have the opportunity to vary the breeds of dogs that we work with at the Center. Bringing German Shepherds back into our reservoir of available dogs will offer our clients an additional choice of breeds, particularly for those who favor German Shepherds. We want to thank "The Seeing Eye"  for donating the puppies, and hope they will do well!
